The Creative Power of Your Thoughts

We are vibrational beings.  With every thought we have we transmit a vibration to the Universe.  When we place our focus on a particular thought, we strengthen the vibration of that thought.  The Universe responds to our vibration by matching what shows up in our lives with the energy we are putting out.

When we repeatedly hold a thought it becomes a belief.  Our beliefs determine what we see manifesting in our lives.  If, for example,  a person believes he or she is not deserving of success, then, despite all efforts and doing all the "right" things, there will be some way in which she sabotages her success.

Most of our beliefs come from what we picked up in childhood--our "formative" years.  Unfortunately, many of those beliefs are not true.  Think about your self-talk.  How much of it is positive and supportive and how much is about beating yourself up? According to scientists, the average person has about 60,000 thoughts per day.  Of those thoughts, 95% are habitual.  The startling finding is, that 80% of those habitual thoughts are negative.  That means a person can have more that 45,000 negative thoughts a day!  No wonder so many people struggle to reach their dreams and goals!

Our beliefs, values and attitudes are stored in our subconscious mind.  You may not even realize some of the beliefs you hold subconsciously.  Our beliefs become the lens through which we see the world and affect how we behave. 

If you want to  know what beliefs you hold, look at your life and ask, "What would someone have to believe in order to have created this?"  Some may be supportive beliefs and some may be limiting.

Perhaps you will recognize some of these commonly held beliefs:

  • No matter what I do or how hard I try, it's never good enough.
  • I blame others for my problems.
  • My opinion doesn't matter.
  • What I do isn't really important.
  • If people knew the real me they wouldn't like me.
  • I shouldn't try anything new or risky because I'll probably screw it up.
  • I don't deserve to be happy (successful, abundant, have love, etc.)
  • Mistakes and failure are bad.

The way to deactivate a limiting thought is to replace it with a new, supportive, positive thought.  When you first give your attention to the new thought, the vibration isn't very strong because you've been spending a long time reinforcing the limiting thought.  With practice, you can strengthen the vibration of the new thought.  You actually form new neural pathways in your brain, so the new thought becomes your new default thought!

Think about how you feel when you have a negative thought.  Not so good, right?  That bad feeling (what I call contraction) is your indicator that you are heading away from what you want to create in your life.  When you feel good, it's an indicator you are heading in the direction of allowing the good stuff you want to manifest to show up.  So, use your feelings as your internal guidance system and shift your mindset into a positive place when you notice that feeling of contraction.

Here are some way to practice shifting to a positive mindset:

1.  Start paying more attention to your self-talk.  When you notice negative thinking, turn it around to its opposite.  For example, turn " Why am I such an idiot?" to "Why am I so good at so many things?"  Just asking that question, will get your subconscious going to work to answer the positive question and give you examples of what you are good at!  Turn, "My opinion doesn't matter" into, "My opinion is valuable and valid."  Make post it notes and put them up to remind you to think this new thought as often as you can.  If you feel resistance to that new thought, you can put the words "I've decided" or "I choose" in front of the statement.  Ex:  I've decided my opinion is valuable and valid."  "I choose to know my opinion is valuable and valid."  Your subconscious can't argue with a decision or choice.

2.  Scripting is another great way to raise your vibration.  Write a story of how you want your life or a situation to be.  Make it full of juicy details and use sentence openers like "It feels so good when..."  "I love knowing that...." "It's so exciting when...:

3.  Vision boards and "mind movies" are great tools if you are a visual person.  There are many resources online to help you create these.
