Homeopathy is described by the American Institute of Homeopathy as the practice of medicine that combines a holistic and natural form of treatment to those who are ill. The remedies are made from vegetable, mineral, or animal products and are produced under the authority of the FDA-recognized Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States. Homeopathic treatments are based on the theory that minute amounts of the substance that is in the body and causing illness are administered to the patient. The theory is called "like cures like." The homeopath uses small doses of the substance that is causing the imbalance to encourage the body's normal healing process. Homeopathy is a safe, gentle, and natural system of healing that works with your body to relieve symptoms, restore itself, and improve your overall health. It is extremely safe to use, even with very small children and pets, has none of the side effects of many traditional medications, is very affordable and is made from natural substances.
Homeopathy also recognizes that each person exhibits his or her disease in a unique and slightly different way. That is why two people with the same disease will not necessarily receive the same homeopathic remedy. Unlike the one size fits all approach in conventional medicine, a homeopath chooses a remedy that matches the unique symptoms of the individual. By 1900, about 20% of doctors in the US were homeopaths, but due to various political and social changes, homeopathy became relatively unknown in the US until recently. In fact, the family doctor to England's Queen Elizabeth is a homeopathic physician. The World Health Organization estimate that it is currently practiced by over 500 million people worldwide
Healing is as much an art as a science, and nowhere is that dynamic more at play than in the ancient Indian art of Ayurveda. The “science of life”, as it is also known, has been a mainstay of traditional medicine in India for thousands of years, and each year new practitioners are discovering the healing power of this traditional Indian practice. The traditional Indian system for maintaining a healthy body and lifestyle, Ayurveda, divides our minds, bodies, spirits, and interactions into five basic categories made up of the elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. Since every individual has a personalized grouping of these components in his or her body and mind, a prenatal formula is in place and remains there for his or her entire life. The word for this is "dosha" or Prakriti? Based on these elements, each person will have more or less of each component. The seasons, the person's dosha, lifestyle, diet, exercise, and really all aspects of a person's life will be affected by that person's constitution. Depending on your own Prakriti, balancing yourself can take many different pathways. The combination of elements in a person's body, mind and spirit are responsible for the dosha that describes a person. Keeping the elements balanced is the goal of Ayurveda.
