It’s important to know, your meter does not provide the exact result as a venous draw from your arm. How important is this?
Not an issue if your glucose is above 85. It’s most important if you are hypoglycemic. Generally, a glucose level below 70 is considered hypoglycemia.
Check for symptoms such as-
Sweating ? Dizziness ? Shaky feeling ? Your heart is pounding
Compared to a venous draw, if your meter is 8-10 points higher, then account for this especially if your glucose level is low. If your meter shows 75, then your glucose may actually be 65 or 67. Read the instruction insert or go online to obtain information about your meter.
Better yet, bring your meter each time you have a fasting glucose lab test. After your draw is complete – while in the draw chair – check your glucose with your meter. Compare the results when you receive your lab tests.
